They got bundled out of the League Cup following another shy moment at home to Newcastle in the fourth round.

Liverpool did not advance from the group phase in the Champions League. They played in the Europa League, going out to Besiktas on penalties.

In the domestic KOs , the Reds reached the last four in both tournaments.

The might of Chelsea was a stumbling block, going out 1-2 on aggregate in the League Cup.

In the more popular FA Cup, the fans had high hopes of meeting Arsenal in the final but the Reds produced one of their worst performances of the season as they were defeated 2-1 by Aston Villa.
