Triathlon: Great Britain triathlon star Jonny Brownlee has been ruled out of competition until September by a stress fracture of his thigh bone. The 25-year-old 2012 Olympic bronze medallist had been training in St Moritz in preparation for the next round of the World Triathlon Series in Hamburg on July 18. However, injury has now ruled him out until the autumn.

Rugby Union: Wallabies full-back Israel Folau has signed a three-year extension to his national contract in a coup for the embattled Australian Rugby Union. A flock of seasoned Wallabies will leave for foreign shores after the World Cup later this year and dual international Folau, the jewel in the crown of Australian rugby, had been tipped to join them. However, despite being linked with a lucrative move to French giants Toulon, the ex-plosive back decided to remain in Australia until the end of 2018.

Tennis: Wimbledon will observe the nationwide minute’s silence at midday tomorrow, in memory of the victims of the Tunisia terror attack. Some 30 Britons are believed to be among the 38 shot dead in Sousse last Friday. All England Club chief executive Richard Lewis confirmed Wimbledon will observe the mark of respect, with play on the outside courts starting at 12.15pm in-stead of the usual 11.30am.

Golf: Two-time US Open champion Retief Goosen birdied the first play-off hole of a qualifying tournament at Woburn Golf Club to secure a spot at this month’s British Open. The 46-year-old shot rounds of 67 and 72 to get into a three-man play-off for the final spot. Irish amateur Paul Dunne shot the lowest score after rounds of 70-65 gave him a three-stroke victory with Robert Dinwiddie also qualifying for the tournament at St Andrews.
