I participated in the protest march held in support of the residents of Marsascala. I feel that our country has reached the point of saturation with regard to further building in open rural spaces and more so in urban places.

I reside in St Julian’s, which was once a pleasure to live in but which now, like other places such as Sliema, has become nearly unbearable due to overcrowding and unnecessary overbuilding.

All open spaces have been taken up by new buildings and most of the coastline, especially in St Julian’s, has been encroached upon by private interests, leaving only a small portion of it available for the ordinary Maltese citizen to enjoy free of charge, not to mention the amount of traffic which such development has attracted.

The residents of Marsascala should take note of this and prevent the same happening to their locality, before it is too late.

It makes no sense to argue that all this happened under a different administration. The people voted in its majority for change at the last elections but are getting more of the same and worse.

The standard of living enjoyed by all citizens is more important than the country’s economic and financial successes.
