I really pity young people like Jamie Vella (an executive member of the PN’s youth section) when they utter such silly and unfounded statements (June 24), such as “giving women the right of choice over their own bodies”, or when they make reference to “any principle that gives people the responsible authority over their own bodies”.

These are simply unfounded and untrue statements. If Vella knows his Catholic Catechism well (e.g. 358, 470 to 479) then he should know that there is no such thing as anyone of us having any “right of choice” over what is not our own.

Our body has been loaned (not given!) to us by a loving God who fully expects us to respect it and, in truth, to nobly account for it at the point of death. It is He who gives and He who taketh, and simply no one else.

That said, we are therefore all shouldered with the responsibility of: a) Not doing anything to harm our or others’ body, and b) not doing or permitting anything to be done by others against any human body, including that of the as yet unborn child.

Even if (as reported by Times of Malta) the PN may not choose to censor Vella for his views in favour of abortion, I really do hope that there are still enough serious and responsible people in the PN to teach him (as a still young and probably thoroughly inexperienced lad) what is good and what is bad, as well as what are the truths and what are simply untruths or baseless figments in his reasoning.
