Midfielder Roderick Bajada has joined his former coach Jacques Scerri at Tarxien Rainbows after agreeing a one-year deal.

For Bajada this will be his second time with the Rainbows after his stint of season 2012-13.

Last year, the much-travelled Bajada moved to Pembroke Athleta in Division One and helped them to an historic promotion to the Premier League.

Bajada is the third player who was with Scerri at Pembroke last season and moved to Tarxien following keeper Andrea Cassar and midfielder Ayrton Azzopardi.

“Roderick Bajada represents a very important signing for Tarxien Rainbows,” coach Scerri told Times of Malta yesterday.

“Our plan here at Tarxien is to assemble a competitive squad with talented Maltese players and Roderick Bajada can help the ones coming up at the club to adhere themselves to the demands of top-flight football.

“Last season he played a key role in marshalling a very young Pembroke squad to the Division One championship so this year we are banking on him to prove himself at this club. We now he will be a great asset for Tarxien along with the other signings.”

Meanwhile, it was confirmed that the Rainbows are also in talks with Hibernians to sign midfielder Brandon Muscat. Last season, he was on loan at St George’s.

Scicluna prolongs stay at Naxxar Lions

Andrew Scicluna has agreed to extend his loan stay at Naxxar Lions for a second successive season.

Last season, defender Scicluna was a regular starter for the Lions who retained their top-flight status for a second successive year after a long struggle against relegation.

This summer, Naxxar have also completed the signing of Brazilian midfielder Mandinho.

The 31-year-old was brought in to replace Gilmar, now at Hibs.

Mandinho should provide much-needed experience for Stefano Grima’s squad having plied his trade in Brazil, Denmark, Estonia and Lithuania through his career.
