A 55-year-old woman from Cospicua is in a critical condition after finding herself in difficulty while swimming.

The police said the woman jumped into the sea at It-Toqba in Vittoriosa, at around 4pm.

Witnesses helped the woman to shore and she was taken to hospital by ambulance.
