I had the honour and pleasure of attending the commemorative Mass at St Elmo on June 23 marking the 450th anniversary of the fall of St Elmo to the Ottoman Empire. I also had the opportunity to visit the beautiful restoration of the fort itself and equally important the magnificent exhibition showing not only the images of the fall of St Elmo but also the historic moments of World War II.

I could not but put pen to paper to publicly congratulate Heritage Malta and the restorers Demicoli & Associates for the great job they did of bringing St Elmo back to life again.

However I must also commend Heritage Malta for the wonderful exhibition which I strongly re-commend that all Maltese should visit. It is not just a tourist attraction but a beautifully depicted history lesson of what really happened during that Great Siege.

Parents should take their children along, as I wish I had had the opportunity to do when I was young, so as to really understand our great past in vivid pictorial form, professionally exhibited.

A great job well done, Heritage Malta.
