Q: Last December I was given an engagement ring and since then two stones have fallen off it. When the first stone fell, I went to the seller to complain. The seller accepted to replace the stone free of charge. However, a few weeks later, I lost another one. This is no longer acceptable.

Since the ring was purchased less than six months ago, am I entitled to ask for a replacement with a new one?

A: If the ring is defective and the repairs carried out by the seller are not solving the problem, legally you may request to have the ring replaced instead of opting for another repair.

Should the seller refuse your request, you may then file a complaint with the Office for Consumer Affairs so that mediation is carried out between you and the seller with the aim of reaching an amicable solution.
