The Cawnpore Cup is the most prestigious event and the final match of the Malta Polo Club’s playing season.

This year’s event took place earlier this month in front of a record attendance, which included distinguished VIPs, ambassadors and President Marie-Louise Coleiro Preca.

The contested match was between the Engel & Völkers team (captained by Karl Galea) and the Brooks Brothers team (captained by Julian Mamo). The Engel & Völkers team won the match 6-3 and were presented the trophy by the President. The match was followed by a champagne reception and dinner.

This annual event was first contested in 1901 at Cawnpore India some 115 years ago (the site of the infamous Cawnpore Massacre in 1857). Gifted to the Malta Polo Club in 1947, the Cup has been played annually with the exception of the war years.

The highest handicapped polo players in the club are eligible to play in the Cawnpore Cup, and this year’s teams included a fine selection of the club’s best players.

Trackside, spectators and visitors contributed towards the Malta Community Chest Fund/Solidarjetà bl-Isports 2015, which raised an impressive sum for this good cause. The club will continue to support the MCCF Foundation during the 2015/2016 polo season.

Engel & Völkers Sara Grech’s managing director Benjamin Grech was pleased with the company’s involvement in this premium sporting event.

“As a high-end real estate brokerage company, we certainly believe that our contribution towards the game of polo has been substantial and significant for the future growth of the game.”
