KażinSka, the band known for brining traditional marches into the here and now, is organising a concert in aid of Ċentru Animazzjoni Missjunarja as part of the Oħloq Tbissima marathon.
Since its inception, KażinSka has grown into a seven-piece ensemble of young musicians and friends that together give their own inter-pretation of banda marches’ melodies under the direction of Justin Galea.
These interpretations are dressed into ska, reggae, samba, jazz, R&B, electronic music and other styles, creating a joyous atmosphere synonymous to a typical Maltese feast but, of course, with a different sound.
KażinSka play mostly instrumental music with sporadic lyrics uttered in association with the particular tune.
The ensemble has in the past years toured extensively around Malta and taken part in major local festivals and events as well as holding successful 1845collaborations with artistic organisations.
The concert will also see the launch of Ġiżimina, a project by London-based Maltese singer Yasmin Kuymizakis, better known as Yews.
With Ġiżimina, the musician aims to focus on the exploration of gender identities through folk music.
A DJ spinning vinyls of Maltese music from the past will also be present throughout the event.
The concert takes place next Sunday at 8pm at the courtyard of St Joseph Home, Santa Venera. Entrance is against a donation of €4 for the missions in Peru, Pakistan, Philippines and other countries and also for the children at St Joseph Home.
