Nigel Pearson – Leicester.Nigel Pearson – Leicester.

While Leicester went on fighting to the bitter end to retain their status in the Premier League for another year, Hull lost their way in the straight for home and will play in the Championship next season.

Hull have spent four seasons in the top flight − two years from 2008-2010 and the last two seasons.

Steve Bruce worked really hard to keep the Tigers in the top flight but erratic outcomes in the last phase of the campaign spelled relegation.

Hull had started the 2014-15 season with a bang, writing a new page in their annals after playing in the Europa League for the first time in the club’s history.

Bruce’s best signing was Andrew Robertson for £2.85m from Dundee United. He was the club’s man of the year.

When it seemed that Leicester will be the ones to fall at the end of the season, Nigel Pearson and his men fought back bravely to beat the relegation threat.

Some of the early results of the season were heartening and their fans never thought that they will be staring relegation in the face after draws with Everton and Arsenal and a famous 5-3 win over Manchester United.

Yet Leicester appeared to have rested on their laurels as they embarked on a horrible run of 13 matches without a win.

Then, at the start of April, Leicester started showing more commitment and determination in their play and a run of four straight wins gave them the confidence needed to claim more positive outcomes.

In the FA Cup, Leicester beat Newcastle and in the fourth round they staged a superb display to topple Tottenham at White Hart Lane 2-1. They succumbed to Aston Villa in the next round.

In the League Cup, the Foxes fell at home to Shrewsbury 0-1 in the second round.

Hull lost to Arsenal, who had beaten them in the 2014 FA Cup final, in the early rounds and in the League Cup they went down at West Brom in round three.

In their historic season in Europe, Hull lost in the play-off to Lokeren on the away goals’ rule.
