Mente, an innovative system for children with autism developed by Maltese company AAT, was officially launched in Italy by the Italian Red Cross CRI – Rome and Consorzio Promosalute, Mente distributors for Italy.

The launch took the form of a convention for more than 100 participants from the medical, educational and political spheres. Entitled Persone Autistiche – Una Vita Tra La Gente (People With Autism – A Life Spent With Others) to focus on the CRI’s goals to promote inclusion, the event was held at the CRI Central Committee offices in Rome, Italy.

Mente, the brainchild of Maltese scientist Adrian Attard Trevisan, is an award-winning EEG device that uses neurofeedback technology to help relax the minds of children with autism, enabling them to focus better and positively engage with the world. It is a groundbreaking device for safe home use.

Flavio Ronzi, president of the CRI Rome Provincial Committee, inaugurated the event by presenting the organisation’s vision to collaborate with third parties that provide healthcare products and services that positively impact the lives of those affected by serious or disabling medical conditions.

“We’re here to improve the health and quality of life of those affected by serious conditions,” he explained. “We have to and we want to have an increasingly strong and effective role in health management and in the social protection of all citizens, a role that is sanctioned and guided by our organisation’s principles.”

Chaired by Bruno Beomonte Zobel, who heads the radiology division of the Policlinico Universitario Campus Bio-Medico, the event covered various aspects of autism and its incidence and treatment in Italy. Presenters included Carlo Hanau, lecturer at Unimore, Paolo Cavallari, professor of human physiology at the Universita degli Studi di Milano, Teresa Rongai, a paediatrician representing the Società Italiana Medici Pediatri, and Sergio Corbi, director of the Orthodontics Division of the San Camillo Hospital in Rome.

Adrian Attard Trevisan, founder and CEO of AAT Research, and Angelica Micallef Trigona, chief marketing and operations officer at AAT Research, gave presentations to introduce Mente and the science behind it. They also took questions from the floor about its benefits, use, certifications and clinical trial results to date.

Patrizia Ravaioli, CRI director general and Michele Bonizzi, CRI Roma Health director also addressed the floor, as did Consorzio Promosalute president, Angelo Arancio, Consorzio Promosalute commercial director, Giancarlo Fabbi and director, Outsourcing Helpdesk, Roberto Feliciani.

The presentations generated much interest from the paediatricians, parents, teachers and lobby group representatives present as well as from the medical community.
