Women’s champions Hibernians will face a familiar face in next month’s UEFA Women’s Champions League qualifying round after they were drawn to play Rachel Cuschieri’s Apollon Limassol, in the mini-tournament to be played in Cyprus.

The Paolites, who last season completed a memorable league and cup double, were drawn in Group Three alongside Limassol and Nordic opposition Stjarnan, of Iceland, and KI Klaksvik, of Faroe Islands.

Cuschieri left Birkirkara to join Apollon Limassol at the start of last season and helped her new club reach the round of 32 of the women’s UEFA Champions League.

KI Klaksvik, on their part, are the only side to hold the unique record of featuring in all 15 editions of the competition, albeit they never managed to make it past the qualifying round.

Incidentally, last season Limassol and KI Klaksvik were in the same qualifying round group, with the Cypriot champions winning the match 3-1.

The eight mini-tournaments which form the qualifying round will be played between August 11 and 16.

The eight group winners progress to join the 24 teams from the 15 highest-ranked nations in the round of 32 draw on August 20.
