Marco Benassi scored twice and Andrea Belotti was also on the mark as Italy produced a superb performance to beat England 3-1 in a UEFA U-21 Championship qualifier, yesterday. Nathan Redmond scored a 90th-minute consolation for England but Italy’s efforts proved futile as Sweden scored late against Portugal to draw 1-1 in the other Group B match. Sweden and Italy finished with four points each but the Scandinavians have a better head-to-head record. In Saturday’s semis, Group B winners Portugal play Germany and Sweden come up against Denmark.
