Birkirkara have signed Italian striker Fabrizio Miccoli.

Miccoli, who has turned out for a host of prestigious clubs including Juventus and Benfica, is joining the FA Trophy winners on a one-year deal.

His arrival at Birkirkara had been on the cards after Miccoli, who last played for Lecce, visited the team’s training camp in Roccaporena for talks with Adrian Delia, the president of the Premier League club.

Giovanni Tedesco, who has replaced Paul Zammit as Birkirkara coach, is understood to have played a key role in persuading Miccoli to join him as the two played together at Palermo and Perugia.

Miccoli, who turns 36 on Saturday, has played 10 times for Italy.
