In 1995, the board of the planning authority approved a Grade 1 scheduling for the four-mile stretch of coastline between Wied Għammieq and Ras iż-Żonqor entrenchment which was built in 1761.
The scheduling was vetted and confirmed by the Heritage Advisory Committee due to the site’s historic and architectural importance, especially considering that it forms part of the fortifications of the Knights. A road in the vicinity is named Triq Għaxqet l-Għajn – ‘Pleasing to the Eye Street’.
