Prime Minister Joseph Muscat said today that a planned activity in support of building the new university on Zonqor, Marsascala, should be called off because it was not appropriate at this time.

The activity, planned for next Sunday, is being advertised on Facebook.

Dr Muscat told Times of Malta that the government was continuing to evaluate a number of proposals for the location of the new university, with the possibility that the campus could be split between Zonqor and another site.

He said he was confident that a compromise could be reached, and it would be acceptable to people who were not extremists.

The alternative sites, he said, had been suggested by NGOs and individuals, but he did not disclose which were considered most favourable.

Asked whether he was prepared to publish the heads of agreement between the government and the Sadeen Group, which will build the new university, Dr Muscat said he had no objection to publication at the appropriate time.
