The Malta Floral Club celebrated its golden anniversary with a gala dinner for members and guests. A cake, made by Lily De Conti Manduca, was cut by guest of honour Frances de Piro, daughter of the first chairman and founder member Rosaleen Wilson.

A hat luncheon was also organised to mark the club’s activities this year, where members wore creative hats made from plant materials. The Lena Franks trophy, awarded for the most outstanding hat, was awarded to Sarah Paris.

The club started off in 1965 with a small group of women sharing a passion for flowers.

The club’s aim has always been to bring flower lovers together so they can relax while arranging flowers.

The club is often invited to decorate public buildings in Valletta for State events.

Last year, the club’s chairman Maria Sammut, together with members Madeleine Abela and Lily De Conti Manduca, represented Malta at the World Association of Flower Arrangers in Dublin.

Sammut was awarded a ‘Commended’ for her exhibit.
