Q: In October 2013 I purchased a new washing machine. Since last February I have been having numerous problems with it.
I’ve contacted the seller several times and each time he repairs and replaces the faulty parts. The last time the washing machine was faulty, the seller took it to his repair shop and kept it for three weeks as they could not find the fault. Eventually, they fixed the faulty dispenser but did not fix the original fault.
The washing machine has now developed another fault and is not working. What rights do I have? It is obvious that the washing machine has faults the seller is unable to repair.
A: Since the washing machine has already been repaired several times in the past months, and since problems keep cropping up, you can ask the seller to replace it with a new one instead of carrying out another repair.
You need to send a registered letter to the trader in which you formally notify him about your complaint and request that the washing machine is replaced. If the seller does not reply to your letter within a reasonable time or refuses to replace the washing machine, you may file a complaint with the Office for Consumer Affairs.
