Here we are, already halfway through 2015 and it’s summer once more. And with it come blazing sunshine, oftentimes unbearable heat… and an exciting list of films that feature in KRS Releasing Limited’s summer schedule.

The schedule boasts numerous titles ranging from original films to sequels and spin-offs.

Unsurprisingly, it is dominated by the ubiquitous action-adventures, with a handful of highly-anticipated blockbusters expected to burst onto our screens over the next three months.

Speaking of blockbusters, Jurassic World already threatens to be the 2015 box office champion. But there are a couple of titles that may give the dinosaur-fest a run for its money.

Arnold Schwarzenegger returns to one of his signature roles in the oddly-spelled, eagerly-anticipated) Terminator: Genisys. The film also stars Emilia Clarke who takes over the iconic role of Sarah Connor.

The Marvel Cinematic Universe continues its marvellous mythos with the arrival of the Ant-Man; starring Paul Rudd as the little superhero in what will very likely be a large film while four more Marvel heroes will suit up in the reboot of the Fantastic Four franchise.

Also, Tom Cruise continues to carry out impossible missions in Mission Impossible: Rogue Nation.

If these are not enough to whet the appetite of action addicts, No Escape sees Pierce Brosnan and Owen Wilson star in this action thriller about a businessman trapped with his family in a war zone. Jake Gyllenhaal leads an impressive cast in Everest, based on the real events of the 1996 Mount Everest disaster.

A slate that promises something for everyone

The Transporter franchise returns with Transporter: Re-fuelled; Hitman Agent 47 follows a mysterious assassin; while there is much curiosity about the big screen adaptation of cult 1960s spy TV series The Man from U.N.C.L.E, starring Henry Cavill and Armie Hammer.

The Sci-Fi / Fantasy box is ticked with the second adventure in the Maze Runner series with Scorch Trials; while Ryan Reynolds and Ben Kingsley star in Self/Less in which in an experimental medical procedure sees the latter’s consciousness take over the former’s body.

It isn’t all just action and adventure – the comedy cup full to the brim; and among the many chuckle-fests promised are two eagerly-awaited sequels.

Mark Wahlberg and his foul-mouthed teddy-bear Ted (voiced by Seth McFarlane) return in Ted 2, while Channing Tatum and his absurdly-sculpted abs return to undoubtedly much hysterical screaming in Magic Mike XXL.

Keanu Reeves in Knock, Knock.Keanu Reeves in Knock, Knock.

Pixels sees Adam Sandler and friends fighting off an invasion of Earth by Pac-Man and other popular video-game characters. Reese Witherspoon and Sofia Vergara make an unlikely couple in road comedy Hot Pursuit, Kristen Wiig and Owen Wilson pull off a heist in Masterminds, Pierce Brosnan also stars in romantic comedy How to Make Love Like an Englishman, while comedian Amy Schumer is making waves in Trainwreck. Jesse Eisenberg co-stars with Kristen Stewart in American Ultra in which he stars as a stoner, who is a sleeper secret agent.

More comedy, with a soupçon of drama, come courtesy of Ricki and the Flash which sees Meryl Streep taking on the mantle of an aging rock musician who decides to return to her estranged family, while director Cameron Crowe assembles an impressive cast, including Bradley Cooper and Emma Stone for Aloha.

More drama, which includes veteran actor Ian McKellan in Mr Holmes, where he plays the legendary and Sherlock Holmes as he looks back on his life.

Jonah Hill and James Franco take on serious roles in true-life drama True Story.

Acclaimed actor Michael Fassbender tackles the Western in Slow West as does Natalie Portman who gets serious in Jane Got a Gun. Rosamunde Pike stars in psychological thriller Return to Sender.

Those little yellow thingamajigs that easily stole the show in both Despicable Me and its sequel finally get their own screen outing in Minions and they will likely slug it out in the animation stakes with Pixar’s Inside Out in which a young girl’s emotions – Joy, Sadness, Anger et al – offer her advice and support.

The live-action Max follows the adventures of a military working dog, while Paper Towns is the big screen adaptation of the young adult novel by John Green who also wrote the hugely popular The Fault in Our Stars. Horror fans can look forward to Poltergeist, a remake of the influential 1980s classic, fan favourite Keanu Reeves stars in horror-thriller Knock Knock, The Gallows continues the tradition of the ‘found footage’ horror film and James McAvoy and Daniel Radcliffe star in Victor Frankenstein.
