The Health Literacy Survey is worrying in its findings.

I have spent the past two years trying to establish a mental health recovery college in Gozo. The aim is to provide information and to help develop skills around mental health, resilience and well-being in an educational setting.

I worked for three years as a trainer in the first such college in the UK and hope to use my knowledge and skills here to complement and add to the services already provided.

In addition to the more obvious benefits of providing such resources, people gain more chances to be experts based on experience, learn self-management and to develop helpful and hopeful peer support networks.

The college also recognises and seeks the valuable experiential knowledge of personal and professional caregivers.

After many e-mails back and forth and numerous meetings with relevant parties and bodies, the Gozo NGOs association has agreed to begin the registration process for the NGO – to be known as Pharos – so that we may help focus and provide a beacon of light and hope through even the darkest times.
