Alan Pardew – Crystal Palace.Alan Pardew – Crystal Palace.

The last time Crystal Palace were in the Premier League (2004-05) they went down without a fight.

Last season, the Londoners again looked like they will be suffering the same fate but a managerial change in December helped them save their status.

The arrival of Alan Pardew from Newcastle saw Crystal Palace making great progress. In the end, they finished 10th place.

Pardew shocked everyone when he made the move to Selhurst Park in January and no-one expected him to do so well with his new club after replacing Neil Warnock.

Everton looked to build on the fifth place finish of 2013-14.

However, their final placing last month – 11th – saw the Toffees tumble six places from the previous year.

The fans were glad to see striker Romelu Lukaku signing on full-time basis from Chelsea, but he failed to deliver. The expectancy was high yet it never materialised.

Everton’s Thursday matches in the Europa League did not help either. Dynamo Kiev eventually halted them in their stride.

In the domestic cups last season, Everton were eliminated by West Ham in a third round replay at Upton Park and in the League Cup they were also knocked out at the first time of asking at Swansea.

Crystal Palace fell in the third round of the League Cup, at home to Newcastle.

In the FA Cup, Palace saw off non-League Dover and Southampton away. However, they lost to Liverpool 1-2 at Selhurst Park in the fifth round.
