Workers have started dismantling the first chimney at Marsa power station, the prime minister announced today.

"Effective environmental action improving Malta air quality," he tweeted.

The power station was closed in March, with electricity now sourced from Delimara and the interconnector.

Initial works on dismantling the Marsa power station started in October.

The first chimney being dismantled is just over 40 metres high.
