A salesman at a Marsa food outlet was charged in court today with the misappropriation of about €7,000 to the detriment of his employer Valhmor Borg Import Export Limited.

Jonathan Abela, 32, of Mosta pleaded not guilty to stealing a range of food items and misappropriation when he allegedly sold food for half the price to a client and pocketed the money without cashing in the transactions between February and May this year.

The client - George Lanzon, 52, also of Mosta - was also charged over the case. He pleaded not guilty to stealing the food items and handling stolen property.

Sources said the company filed a police report after noticing a discrepancy between stock and sales.

Both men were granted bail against a personal guarantee of €10,000.
Lawyers Veronique Dalli and Dean Hili represented the accused
Police Inspector Robert Said Sarreo prosecuted.
