Michael Falzon's position as parliamentary secretary for planning is no longer tenable and the prime minister has a duty to act in view of the controversial Gaffarena expropriation deal, shadow minister Jason Azzopardi said today.

Dr Azzopardi observed that Dr Falzon had now admitted that he had discussed the Gaffarena deal at his office at Castille; that he was a hunting buddy of Mr Gaffarena; that it was actually Mr Gaffarena who had requested the expropriation and that Mr Gaffarena was accompanied at the Lands Department by a member of Dr Falzon's secretariat.

Dr Azzopardi said that in view of these admissions the PN could not understand how Dr Falzon has not yet resigned.

"Is Dr Muscat still the prime minister? What is he waiting for to sack him, or is he himself involved?, Dr Azzopardi asked.

Nationalist MP Ryan Callus said that the revelation by Times of Malta today that Lands Department architects went to Bahar ic-Caghaq to make evaluations of land to be given to Mr Gaffarena just three days after Mr Gaffarena showed interest in the expropriation showed that the stink of corruption was getting worse.
