Italy want to go into this summer on the back of an impressive performance against Portugal in their international friendly tonight in Geneva (kick-off 20.30).

The Azzurri drew 1-1 in Croatia on Friday to remain second in European Championship qualifying Group H.

Italy are unbeaten with five wins and four draws under coach Antonio Conte, who replaced Cesare Prandelli after last year’s World Cup in Brazil.

“This is our last game of the campaign,” Italy striker Ciro Immobile said. “We want to do well.

“The game against Portugal is important because we have not lost under Conte.

“We want a win against Portugal. We are doing a good job in qualifying and played well in Croatia.”

Conte will be forced to make changes to his starting XI with veteran goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon out injured.

Buffon, who saved a penalty from Croatia’s Mario Mandzukic hurt his right knee during that game and will miss the encounter in Geneva.

Paris St Germain goalkeeper Salvatore Sirigu is set to replace Buffon in between the posts.

Roma midfielder Daniele De Rossi could return to play after missing Friday’s match with a muscular problem while defender Andrea Barzagli, midfielder Marco Verratti and striker Simone Zaza are all out injured.

Portugal travel to the Stade de Geneva in buoyant mood after a hat-trick from captain Cristiano Ronaldo handed the Selecao a come-from-behind 3-2 win against Armenia in Saturday’s Euro 2016 qualifier.

The win, Portugal’s first on Armenian soil and their fourth straight in qualifying, moved Fernando Santos’ men five points clear of their nearest challengers Denmark and Albania at the top of Group I.

“We took an important step to qualifying for Euro 2016,” coach Santos said. “We were delighted with the win but my players are aware that we didn’t play well.

“Now we face Italy who have great players and give little away. This is an important test for us.

“We will make a few changes to the team but without altering our balance.”

Ronaldo will not feature against Italy with the Real Madrid star having been allowed to leave the squad early to begin his holidays.

Porto winger Ricardo Quaresma is expected to replace Ronaldo and partner Danny and Nani in Portugal’s attack.
