I enjoyed reading the article ‘A legend revisited’ (Culture and Entertainment, The Sunday Times of Malta, June 7), which announced that Merlin Publishers have just published an adaptation of The Legend of St George and the Dragon by Gozitan author Pierre Mejlak.

This will continue to make the legendary story of St George more popular among our younger generation. The article pointed out that in view of this translation “to date there was no local retelling of the story in Maltese”.

This is not strictly accurate as three years ago St George’s parish of Victoria took the initiative to publish the book Il-Qaddis li ssielet mad-Dragun, translated from English into Maltese by Francesco Pio Attard and published by Klabb Kotba Maltin.

Copies of this book can be obtained from the main booksellers and from St George’s Basilica (www.stgeorge.org.mt; info@sangorg.org).
