Last year’s Dance Hybrid sessions.

Celebrating its 14th season, the international Dance Hybrid Malta, led by artistic director Francesca Abela Tranter, this year features two international guest artists: Yen-Ching Lin from Taiwan and Anton Lachky from Slovakia.

Dance Hybrid Malta, organised by Contact Dance Company, offers a dance platform that creates opportunities for aspiring dancers, teachers, professional and semi-professional dance artists. It is also a physical plat-form where artists get together and communicate through the language of the body.

Every year the Dance Hybrid Malta initiative invites international established and emerging artists to conduct master classes, workshops, create, exchange and explore the diversity of contemporary dance. These workshops have contributed greatly to the dance community in Malta   learning and challenging the perpetual evolving world of dance.

This year, Dance Hybrid Malta consists of a six-day intensive course which will focus on master classes, contemporary technique, repertory works from the Akram Khan Dance Company and the exploration of new collaborative choreographic workshops.

An informal sharing with all participants and other dance artists will be held at the MSpace Blue Box theatre in Msida on July 11 at 5.30pm.

The event aims to support the contemporary dance community by exploring new techniques, drawing from diverse styles and current trends bringing in diverse cultures from around the globe.

Akram Khan senior dancer Yen-Ching Lin will lead technique and repertory sessions that draw upon materials from the company’s repertoires Vertical Road, iTMOi and Kaash.

Contemporary masterclasses with Anton Lachky are expected to challenge the dancer in working with precision complexity and speed.  The focus will be on developing full coordination of body while dancing within high velocity and creating an awareness of every single body part.
