A shark has died after the lorry it was being transported in crashed off the road.

Authorities said the truck was carrying four of the big fish from Marathon, Florida, to an aquarium in New York City when a tyre blew and it ran off the road near Oak Hill, Florida.

The Florida Highway Patrol said the sharks had been placed in separate tanks in the trailer. One tank was damaged, leading to the sandbar shark's death.

A SeaWorld rescue team from Orlando moved the remaining sharks to its facility until transportation arrangements can be made. Team member Jim Kinsler said the remaining sharks are in good condition, and the three people in the truck were not hurt.
