Jeremy Clarkson will leave Top Gear in typically chaotic style after a preview of his final show was unveiled.

The extended episode features the trio of Clarkson, James May and Richard Hammond and is made up of footage filmed before he was sacked following a ‘fracas’ with producer Oisin Tymon.

The special will wrap up the 22nd series of BBC Two’s hit motoring show, which has been off air since March, although a transmission date has not been announced yet.

BBC Two tweeted about the previously unseen films, which see the presenters take on two challenges, posting: “Three men (and The Stig). Two films. One more episode. #TopGear. Coming soon.”

The first adventure sees Clarkson, Hammond and May living the lifestyle of traditional classic car buffs with a Fiat 124 Spyder, Peugeot 304 Cabriolet and MGB GT, while in the other, the three men try to become “lifestyle leisure enthusiasts” with some old 4x4s that they bought with just £250.

Clarkson picks a Vauxhall Frontera, Hammond’s choice is a Jeep Cherokee and May decides on a Mitsubishi Shogun Pinin, which they then put through a series of gruelling challenges.

Chris Evans sparked an online frenzy at the weekend when he revealed he was making a “secret Top Gear film”, but sources close to the show said he and Clarkson were filming for the one-off anniversary episode of Evans’s programme TFI Friday, which will be shown tomorrow.

That appearance will be the first time fans have seen Clarkson on TV since he was dropped from Top Gear.
