An Egyptian court has sentenced 11 men to death for their part in a soccer riot that killed more than 70 people in 2012.

Nearly 40 others received sentences ranging from five to 15years. 21 were acquitted.

The riot began when supporters of the local team invaded the field  in Port Said Stadium after defeating the visiting Al Ahli team from Cairo. Panicked fans tried to flee the stadium, but were crushed against locked doors.

In the days after, thousands took to the streets of Cairo to protest the military-run government and demand the prosecution of security officials.

Today's sentences didn't satisfy some of the victims' relatives. Outside the court they claimed that the police and security officials didn't do enough to prevent the riot, and that they have not been held accountable.
