Next Sunday, countries worldwide will celebrate World Blood Donor Day for the 12th time.

Events, which are being organised to raise awareness of the need for safe blood and blood products, also serve to thank voluntary blood donors for their life-saving gifts of blood.

The theme of this year’s campaign, ‘Thank you for saving my life’, focuses on thanking these donors who save lives every day through their blood donations and strongly encourages more people all over the world to put the ‘Give freely, give often. Blood donation matters’ slogan into pracatice.

The campaign aims to highlight stories by people whose lives have been saved through blood donation as a way of motivating regular donors to continue giving blood and people in good health who have never done so, particularly young people, to begin donating.
