Gianluca Bezzina is a perfect example of a young practicing Catholic person living a joyful life to the full based on Christian values. Christian values are applicable to all – believers and non-believers – because who does not wish to live a truly joyful life to the full?

Persons like Gianluca are so fulfilled with their meaningful life that, while committed to defending life, they are willing to share their values with all.

These include values essential to a healthy society such as ethical standards, trust, accountability, mutual respect, transparency and fairness.

These values were never meant to be imposed on anyone. Persons from all walks of life who cherish them sincerely strive for consistency of thought and action and thus are witnesses of a dignified joyful life.

While Gianluca insisted that the Opposition should safeguard morals and should not seek to increase votes at the expense of morals, Simon Busuttil spoke of the PN’s historical responsibility to restore confidence in politics as a service to the people and not as a service to oneself.

It was unfair therefore to have gays assume that Gianluca was in any way attacking legislation concerning civil union – a reform supported by the two major political parties. It is simply a question of different value priorities.

These incorporate for instance – despite any legislation – promoting the union between one man and one woman as a major asset to society.

This marriage with its unitive and procreative dimensions is grounded in the nature of the human person and predates both religion and government.

It is very refreshing therefore to have a political party deciding to invite an extraordinary personality like Gianluca to participate in its general council and thus have the opportunity to transmit such a genuine positive energy to all.
