Two of Delicata’s single varietal wines were awarded commendations at the prestigious 2015 Decanter World Wine Awards (DWWA) recently. These are the 2014 vintage Classic Collection Landini Vementino IGT Maltese Islands and the 2013 vintage Grand Vin de Hauteville Moscato DOK Malta Liqueur wine.

These two latest awards bring the fourth generation family-run winemaker’s total award count up to 106,12 of these being awarded in the last nine months and including three gold, two silver and five bronze.

The DWWA, which is held annually in London, is reportedly the world’s largest and most influential wine competition. DWWA chairman Steven Spurrier said: “The Decanter World Wine Awards is here to recognise and award quality. I think that is what has made the DWWA the most important wine competition in the world.”

The Decanter competition is the first wine competition that the Landini Vermentino has entered into, as the wine was only introduced in Delicata’s popular range of classic collection wines last year, when they switched the range over from cork to screw cap. The wine is made from 100 per cent Malta grown Vermentino grapes, a fairly new white variety for Malta that is performing really well and produces aromatic, crisp, fruity, dry white wines with a delicate mix of spice and ripe exotic fruit flavours.

The second wine to win a commendation is no stranger to awards, having won four previous awards including three bronze medals in Bordeaux and London in just threeyears. This unique sweet wine is made exclusively from Malta- grown Moscato grapes and comes in a 50cl bottle and ‘packs a pleasant punch’ with a weighty 15 per cent alcohol by volume strength.
