Allow me to join the chorus of tributes to the late Godfrey Wettinger. Incidentally, early this year he gave me his consent to quote from his interesting book Lost Villages of Malta.
This contribution will be published early June in the annual publication of the 12th May Band & Social Club of Żebbuġ on the occasion of the village feast.
I would also recall when Wettinger formed part of the Heritage Advisory Committee in one of the branches of what was then called the Planning Authority.
He was appointed with other competent persons in their specialised field relating to our heritage and its conservation.
At that time ‘meritocracy’ meant its true meaning – putting competent people in the respective board/authority to reap the benefits of their expertise above politics in decisions related to the national interest.
The team gave a sterling service with its recommendations.
