Bozovic: Montenegrin Miodrag Bozovic took over as Red Star Belgrade coach yesterday on a one-year contract in a bid to turn around the fortunes of the 1991 European champions. The 46-year-old, who has coached 15 clubs in as many years including Moscow rivals Dynamo and Lokomotiv, replaced Nenad Lalatovic who quit last month after cash-strapped Red Star endured a barren season.

Boyata: Celtic have confirmed the signing of Manchester City defender Dedryck Boyata. The 24-year-old Belgium international, who flew into Glasgow on Sunday, is manager Ronny Deila’s first summer signing. He should replace fellow Belgian Jason Denayer, who was on loan from Manchester City, while Deila is keen to keep PFA Player of the Year nominee Virgil van Dijk.

Gourvennec: Guingamp said Jocelyn Gourvennec will remain coach of the Ligue 1 side for next season. Gourvennec, who took over the reins of the club in 2010, is under contract at the club until 2017. Guingamp finished 10th in the overall standings last season, 12 points from the relegation zone.

Fired: Americo Gallego became the 11th coach to lose his job less than halfway through the Argentine championship when he left Newell’s Old Boys yesterday. Gallego leaves Newell’s in seventh place with 23 points from 14 matches, eight points behind leaders San Lorenzo, having taken three from their last four games. Newell’s won their sixth league title in June 2013 under Gerardo Martino, who is now Argentina coach.

Party over: Myanmar’s U-20 World Cup ‘party’ came to a crashing halt yesterday when they were hammered 6-0 by Ukraine, with all six goals coming in the second half, prompting the Asian side’s German coach to apologise to their fans. Myanmar, who qualified for the tournament for the first time by reaching the Asian U-19 championships semi-finals on home soil last year, had given the United States a massive fright in their opening game on Saturday before eventually losing 2-1.

Adkins: Sheffield United have appointed Nigel Adkins as the club’s new manager. Former Scunthorpe, Southampton and Reading boss Adkins, 50, was unveiled as the Blades’ eighth manager in as many years at a press conference at joint club owner Kevin McCabe’s London office in Mayfair, yesterday. Adkins has signed a three-year contract and replaces Nigel Clough, who was sacked along with his six-man coaching staff nine days ago.
