And the saga goes on. I am referring to the beautiful old trees in Victoria’s Independence Square. For reasons unknown to me, the Victoria council is simply determined to chop down these trees and get rid of them. Their latest excuse is that the roots are causing damage to archaeological sites.

As a person of authority so rightfully commented, these trees and their roots have been there for over 80 years and no damage ever emerged. If this damage is so evident, why was it buried and not left uncovered when the square was given a total facelift just a short time ago?

How come the Victoria council is not worried knowing that important sites are being buried? Are there also archaeological sites in the playing field behind the bus terminus in Victoria, because the trees there were all chopped? Is this their idea of renovation, by getting rid of all the greenery?

So many many trees havedisappeared in Gozo mainlyVictoria, which in my opinion is a real and proper disgrace. Authorities should take charge and stop this disgusting behaviour.

Instead of wasting time plotting which trees go next why don’t these people channel their energies to rectify the poor planning and pitiful results in Savina Square, causing a multitude of safety hazardsfor citizens?

If Mepa approves the removal of these trees and others, it will be a crying shame and a crime that will not be forgotten.
