In reference to the article entitled ‘Castille project remains a mess, over two months on’ (May 29), it is being pointed out that, in recent weeks, a number of additional signs were put up to direct both vehicular traffic and pedestrians (see photo).
In addition, Transport Malta enforcement officers are on site to control traffic for most of the day.
The project is being carried out in such a way that when one area reopens another is closed down, hence ‘barriers shifting position’.
This process was adopted to allow the free flow of traffic rather than closing off the square completely.
The fact that traffic management has changed several times is a confirmation that works are progressing. In addition, Transport Malta did, in fact, put up a signage in Ġilormu Cassar Street apologising for the inconvenience caused by the works.
Extensive works on services are almost finished, the tiling in front of the Malta Stock Exchange is near completion, most of the concrete base is already in place and finishing paving blocks are currently being laid.
All this work has been achieved without shutting down the normal activities that take place in the square. As well as maintaining vehicular access, pedestrians, including tourists visiting Barrakka and those from visiting cruise liners, have free access to the main sites in the area.
