The first edition of the Malta Tourism Authority Quality Assured Awards was recently held at Xara Lodge in the limits of Rabat.

Tourism Minister Edward Zammit Lewis and MTA CEO Paul Bugeja presented the winners of four categories with their trophies.

The main objective of the evening was to recognise the first 71 Quality Assured restaurants that were assessed through a mystery guest visit on the quality of service, hospitality and food, together with the overall environment of the restaurant.

Based on the outcome of the mystery guest visit to the qualifying venues, awards were established to recognise the best in class and best hospitality.

Scruples in St Julian’s, Se Ra Ga Ma in Sliema’s Hotel Fortina Spa and De Mondion within the Xara Palace Relais and Chateaux in Mdina all picked up a Best in Class award.

The fourth category, for best hospitality, went jointly to De Mondion, Quadro at the Westin Dragonara Resort in St Julian’s and Blue Elephant within the Hilton Hotel, also in St Julian’s.

The QA Seal for restaurants is a guideline for potential customers to assist them in making an informed decision about the best places to eat.

During the evening, Zammit Lewis and MTA chairman Gavin Gulia launched qualityassuredmalta.com, a website dedicated to Quality Assured restaurants, attractions and firms that have achieved the relevant seal.
