For most of us who have more than enough to eat, the report of how a family is barely scratching a living (The Sunday Times of Malta, May 17) in today’s Malta should raise serious questions.

Rich countries around the world have, in recent years, experienced a sharp increase in the division between rich and poor, and the gap is reportedly widening at an accelerating rate. The same seems to be taking place in Malta.

The Maltese economy is claimed to be one of the strongest in Europe. The controversial arrangements for the sale of Maltese citizenship were claimed to be aimed at helping the rest of us citizens – but which kind, the rich or the poor?
