I am researching the Fabri family of Vittoriosa and my special interest is Franceso and Gerolamo Fabri who were sculptors and lived from the late 18th century to the mid-19th century. They worked in Maltese globigerina stone. Their works include a St Augustine found in the Augustinian Convent in Valletta, St Peter and St Paul in Żurrieq, St Joseph in Żabbar and St Sebastian in Qormi. The Cospicua Oratory is also their work.

It is believed the two were brothers. However, I could not determine this through the Status Animarum registers of the Vittoriosa parish. There I traced Francesco as being the eldest son of Giovanni and his wife Caterina in 1781. Then I traced him as being married to Giuseppa with four children in 1804, among whom there is a Teodoro, whom I traced in some notorial deed as being a carpenter.

As for Gerolamo, the only person I met with that name seems to have lived in Valletta and died around 1816, when his widow, Paola, asked permission to continue the use of a room above Porta Marina. This permission, however, was not granted as she had already been given another room in Floriana.

I would appreciate it if any readers can furnish me with further information. I can be contacted through Facebook or on peressovince@gmail.com.
