What the PN government had boasted about, that Mater Dei was a “state-of-the-art” hospital, has turned out to be a state-of-the-art scandal.

The revelations about the extremely poor standard of the concrete used in the construction of the €600 million hospital has greatly shocked the entire Maltese population except the very few, including Simon Busuttil, who is on record saying: “The hospital still hasn’t fallen.”

Following the Gozo ‘works for votes’ case, which rattled the PN, this latest scandal is bound to confirm what has already been evident, that the PN cannot be trusted to guarantee seriousness in the way the taxes which the Maltese people pay are properly administered.

This is perhaps why Busuttil is resorting to mind-boggling arguments, such as that Health Minister Konrad Mizzi has to carry the responsibility for the poor state of the concrete at Mater Dei when it was the PN government that had contracted Skanska to build the hospital.

After all, the PN has always considered Mater Dei as the flagship of their 25 years in government.

Busuttil also considers the revelations about Mater Dei as “more mud throwing”. The leader of the Opposition seems unable to realise that when he comes out with such banal arguments, he ridicules himself.
