The Assoċjazzjoni Sport Muturi u Karozzi (ASMK) Enduro Championship wrapped up last weekend after a decisive final round of races at the quarry in Torri Falka, limits of Zebbiegħ.

This championship was held thanks to the assistance of Hardrocks Ltd and the sponsorship of Dunlop Tyres.

James Zahra, riding a KTM 200cc, was crowned champion for the second season running.

An encouraging entry of 27 riders registered for the series which was run on a three-kilometre track with varying surface conditions.

Class A was open for motorcycles up to 250cc.

Joseph Scicluna, on a 125cc Honda, was in a class of his own as he raced to remarkable times to finish first in 3:45.70.

Bernard Sammut was runner-up on a 125cc Yamaha, his best time being 4:02.92 ahead of Damon Bonello (250cc Suzuki) 4:02.94 and Daniel Caruana (250cc Honda) 4:08.38.

The highly competitive Class B saw the experienced Matthew Gauci, on a KTM 300cc, steal the show as he clocked a fast 3:37.95 to secure the day’s honours.

Alex Sant Fournier, on a 450cc KTM, registered a best time of 3:40.05 to finish second ahead of Victor Bajada (300cc KTM) 3:47.05 and Zahra, who posted 3:54.63 this time round.

Despite finishing fourth in the last race, Zahra still secured his second consecutive Enduro title after winning two events in the 2014-15 series. He had three runner-up positions and a fifth place in the other rounds.

Zahra finished with 102 points, five ahead of second-placed Gauci who won four races this season but missed one round which proved costly in the end.

Meanwhile, the last rounds of the Autocross and Motocross Poiatti championships, organised by ASMK, will be held tomorrow at the circuit in Ta’ Qali.

The Trials Championships have also reached a decisive stage with the last round of races from this series taking place at the Blokrete Ltd quarry in Naxxar, tomorrow afternoon.
