A Welshman who resides in Burmarrad today denied the possession of a kilogram of cannabis resin found in circumstances denoting it was not for his personal use.

Simon Douglas Roberts, a 29-year-old concrete finisher, pleaded not guilty to trafficking and aggravated possession of the drug.

The court heard how the police were informed about his alleged involvement in  drug circles so they obtained a warrant to search his house. The search, on April 20, yielded a quantity of cannabis. He was then on police bail.

Defence lawyers Giannella de Marco and Gianluca Caruana Curran requested bail. The police did not object because he had been on police bail and had cooperated.

Magistrate Audrey Demicoli granted Mr Roberts bail against a €500 deposit and a €2,500 personal guarantee.

Police Inspector Malcolm Bondin prosecuted.
