Probation and parole services are to start being offered from Gozo reflecting the government’s commitment towards new services on the sister island, Home Affairs Minister Carmelo Abela and Gozo Minister Anton Refalo said today.

They were speaking during a visit to the new Probation and Parole office within the Gozo Ministry.

Mr Abela said there were 92 applications for parole when it was introduced in 2013. Only four were accepted. Twenty of 101 applications were accepted in 2014 and 12 of 51 applications so far have been accepted this year.

He said that 32 community work orders were given by the courts last year and 17 so far this year.
