Rosette Thake is expected to take over from Chris Said as the Nationalist Party's general secretary after she submitted the only nomination for the post until deadline today.

Upon his election as leader two years ago, Dr Busuttil appointed Ms Thake to the board of AŻAD, the PN’s think tank, and last October she presided the party’s first convention.

A graduate in communication and social studies, she is reading for a master’s in public policy leadership at the University of Malta.

For the past 10 years, she has been a managing partner of a cooperative involved in early childhood education, managing various private childcare centres.

She was also part of the commission that reviewed and reported on the PN’s massive electoral defeat in 2013.

The other nominations submitted are:

Assistant secretary general – Jean Pierre Debono
Administrative council president – Karol Aquilina
Executive committee president – Ann Fenech
Treasurer – Alex Perici Calascione
International secretary – Trevor Degiorgio
