Badminton: Badminton has severed ties with SportAccord, adding its name to a fast-growing exodus of sports abandoning the umbrella organisation following a scathing attack by its chief on the IOC. Marius Vizer, who also heads the judo federation, accused the IOC of a lack of transparency, blocking the creation of new sports events and being a dated organisation that did little for international federations. Since then, at least 19 Olympic federations have withdrawn their membership of the organisation representing about 100 sports bodies.

Diving: Tom Daley secured a third-placed finish in the latest round of the Diving World Series in Canada. The 21-year-old won the 10 metre platform in the last round of the six-meet tournament in London but could not keep pace with China’s Jian Yang who won with a score of 567.25, largely thanks to a closing dive of 116.85. Countryman Yue Lin was 33.6 points behind in second with Daley a further 22.15 points behind.

Golf: American Chris Kirk coolly got up and down from off the green at the 18th hole to salvage par and clinch his fourth PGA Tour title by one shot on Sunday at the $6.5 million Crowne Plaza Invitational in Fort Worth, Texas. After watching playing partner Brandt Snedeker narrowly miss a 12-footer for birdie at the last, Kirk sank a clutch seven-foot par putt to seal victory with a closing four-under 66 at a rain-saturated Colonial Country Club. That left Kirk at 12-under 268 after an intriguing last-day shootout at Colonial where five players held at least a share of the lead in the final round.
