The amount of fresh fruit and vegetables available in the first quarter of this year fell by 14 per cent; however, their wholesale value increased by nearly two fifths, according to national data.

The volume sold through official markets amounted to 8.9 million kilos, yielding €6.4 million, the National Statistics Office said.

This represented a drop of 14.1 per cent in weight and a 37.8 per cent growth in wholesale value over the corresponding period in 2014.
