Brian St John, former CEO of the Foundation for Medical Services, has filed a judicial protest against the Prime Minister and the Minister of Health and Energy Konrad Mizzi over comments they made about him regarding weak concrete at Mater Dei Hospital.

Mr St John is now CEO of the Nationalist Party's media arm media.link.

He said that Dr Mizzi, in reply to questions by journalists on May 22 had claimed that he had hidden or locked away in a safe documents related to the building of the hospital.

On May 24 during a television programme, Dr Mizzi had claimed that he (Mr St John) had signed a contract which gave Skanska a waiver of responsibility regarding the building of the hospital.

Mr St John said the minister’s assertions were completely untrue. He never hid any documents, he never had control of any safe while he was CEO of the foundation and, in any case, he had started to work for the foundation more than a year after the hospital was handed over to the government.

In the time he was CEO, until he resigned and was forced to leave without even giving a handover, he was never involved in construction or surveillance of the building works other than with the necessary technical and legal advice.

He had never signed the waiver agreement.

It was clear, Mr St John said, that the minister’s comments were simply a campaign to smear him because he is an employee of the Nationalist Party.

He noted that yesterday Dr Muscat had repeated Dr Mizzi’s comments.

He asked Dr Muscat and Dr Mizzi to withdraw their comments, acknowledge that they were untrue and apologise.
