Celtic began their title-winning party after a Stefan Scepovic double helped them to an easy 5-0 win over a weakened Inverness side at Parkhead yesterday.

The Serbian striker opened the scoring from inches out in the fifth minute before returning midfielder Stefan Johansen added the second before the break.

Caley, without half a dozen regulars rested for next weekend’s Scottish Cup final against Falkirk, chased shadows most of the afternoon and lost further goals to Scepovic, his replacement Leigh Griffiths, and substitute Kris Commons as Ronny Deila’s side impressed.

Chris Kane upstaged Aberdeen captain Russell Anderson’s last game when he netted his first St Johnstone goal with his first touch in his side’s 1-0 victory at Pittodrie.

Kane ran onto a pass down the right channel from fellow substitute James McFadden before slotting underneath Scott Brown, just seconds after coming on as a 70th-minute substitute.

The only goal of the game earned St Johnstone a fourth-place finish and will also secure a fourth consecutive Europa League adventure if Inverness win the Scottish Cup.

Dundee United missed out on the chance of getting into Europe despite a comprehensive 3-0 win over rivals Dundee at Tannadice.

Jackie McNamara’s side swept to victory thanks to Nadir Ciftci’s first-half double, including a penalty, which was followed by Blair Spittal’s goal early in the second half.

But they failed to capture fourth spot as St Johnstone leapfrogged them in the table.
